RECORDS DIVISION

Welcome to the Madison County Records Division

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. You must arrive before 3:30 p.m. for gun permits, background checks, records requests, and Sex/Violent Offender Registry business.

If fees apply to your request, the records office accepts cash, money order, cashier’s check, or credit/debit card. There is a $1.75 service charge to use a card and ID is required.

NO personal checks. No payments can be accepted online or by phone.

Records Requests

 Requests for public records/case reports can be made by fax, email, or in person at the records office during approved business hours (8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.). Requests shall be made on a department form (linked below) and must be submitted with a copy of the requester’s state ID. Fees may apply.

Crash Reports

Crash reports completed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department can be obtained from the Records Department for $8.00 or purchased for $12.00 online by clicking the link below:

Background Checks

ADULT background checks are completed in person during approved office hours. Photo identification (state ID/driver’s license) is required. There is a $3.00 fee for background checks. No third-party requests are accepted.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office maintains a Sex and Violent Offender Registry as a public service tool designed to increase community safety and awareness. Madison County’s Registry Administrator maintains information about offenders living and/or working in Madison County. You can follow the link below to search offenders and submit tips. You can also register addresses to receive email alerts if a new offender registers within one mile of any registered address.
